Miura’s HK Ballast Water Management System Receives AMS Approval
Miura Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, President: Yuji Takahashi), Japan’s leading manufacturer of small once-through boilers, has announced the approval on November 21, 2014 as AMS*1 as stipulated by the USCG (United States Coast Guard)*2. The ballast water management system went on sale in October 2014.
Miura’s HK ballast water management system received approval*3 from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in accordance with the ballast water management convention adopted by IMO (International Maritime Organization) in March 2014. Subsequently, the company requested AMS approval in accordance with the separate ballast water treatment regulations established by the USCG. Approval was obtained on November 21, 2014. This enables vessels equipped with ballast water tanks to enter the U.S. exclusive economic zone from outside to be fitted with Miura’s ballast water management system.
Miura aims to obtain USCG ballast water management system regulation approval in fiscal 2016.
In addition, Miura’s HK ballast water management system has obtained ClassNK (Nippon Kaiji Kyokai) approval, as well as recognition of compliance with the explosion proof specification.
Miura will market the system through existing channels including shipbuilders, distributors, shipowners and operators, with a target of sales totaling 10 billion yen in fiscal 2018. The company will also expand its sales channels overseas. Miura will also undertake further development to enhance the product line and increase production.
*1 Separate ballast water treatment regulations established by USCG (United States Coast Guard).
*2 Ballast water treatment systems approved by the IMO (International Maritime Organization) are measures called AMS (Alternate Management Systems) temporarily admitted by the USCG.
*3 For installation in ships, the approval specified by the Ministry of each Administrations in the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships Ballast Water ＆ Sediments (BWM convention) adopted by the IMO (International Maritime Organization) is mandatory.
